Roger Allers co-directed the original 1994 animated classic The Lion King. He later received a 1998 Tony® nomination for adapting the film to the stage, alongside co-author Irene Mecchi. A driving force of Disney’s Renaissance era of the 1980s and 1990s, Mr. Allers served as Head of Story on Beauty and the Beast and Oliver & Company, and created iconic moments in The Little Mermaid, including “Part of Your World,” “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” and “Kiss the Girl.” He contributed story to Aladdin and Rescuers Down Under, and concept design for the groundbreaking cult classic, Tron. Mr. Allers directed the Academy Award®–nominated short The Little Matchgirl for Disney, the animated film Open Season for Sony Pictures Animation, and wrote and directed The Prophet, adapted from Khalil Gibran’s book. His legacy lives on in his enduring body of work (1949-2026).
